Vótáil 100 Badge

In 1918, Irish women were permitted by law for the first time in their lives to vote and stand in parliamentary elections. In the same year, Constance Markievicz was elected as the first woman to the British Parliament in Westminster. While she never took her seat at Westminster, she became the first female TD after joining the revolutionary first Dáil.

These historic milestones were commemorated a century later in 2018, by the Houses of the Oireachtas, who highlighted and celebrated the achievements of Irish women throughout history through a series of events and commemorative objects, such as the badges here on display.
