World Water Day 2012

International World Water Day is held annually on the 22nd of March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. An international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day. Each year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of freshwater. For an overview of previous year’s themes for World Water day, check out UNWater’s list. UNWater also have a large number of campaign materials which can be used in the workplace or in schools to create awareness around the issue of water.

Developmenteducation.ie also has a module on water and sanitation which contains a wealth of information including water usage, population pressure, the human implication and further information.
