On 17 October 1987, Joseph Wresinski, founder of the International Movement All Together in Dignity – ATD, unveiled a Commemorative Stone on the Trocadero Human Rights Plaza in Paris. In 1992, the UN declared the 17th October as the “International Day for the Eradication of Poverty”. In Ireland, on the 17 October 2008 a commemorative stone was unveiled on Custom House Quay near the Famine Memorial in Dublin.

This report highlights the proceedings of this day. It includes the stories of individual experiencing poverty and social exclusion and those who are supporting them; there are song verses, a drama; a speech by the Lord Mayor of Dublin; a message from the secretary-general message on the international day for the eradication of poverty 17 October 2016; and a reminder of the link with the SDGs.
